Why You Should Become A Turo All-Star Host

Becoming an all-star host on Turo could be the difference between having several bookings a month vs hardly any at all. A Turo All-Star is similar to being a Superhost on Airbnb. It is a goal that any new or veteran host should achieve to maximize revenue.

The Turo All-Star program allows hosts to obtain special perks from Turo. It also gives you a special badge, helps you stand out in search results, gives you priority support over other hosts, and more. All-Star hosts can earn the trust of renters more easily, especially for first-time bookings. Not being an all-star host could hurt your listing.

Everyone that hosts on Turo, even if you have one car that’s listed only part-time, is able to achieve this icon/badge. If you don’t have it on your listing, you are missing out on easy bookings.

Purpose of the All-Star Host Program

In an effort to reduce host cancellations and increase response times, Turo introduced the All-Star host program several years ago. If hosts can show they can meet certain qualifications of being a great host they will be rewarded with being an all-star host. This will also help you get to the top of the search results.

In fact, the CEO of Turo, Andre Haddad, is an All-Star host himself. If Mr. Haddad can do it with his limited free time, so can you. The good news is that achieving this badge is very doable.

Qualifications To Become An All-Star Host

After using the “Top Host” search filter brought my own listing to the top.

To qualify for Turo’s All-Star program, you must meet certain metrics for your overall profile. If you have 1 car or a fleet of 20 or more, you will need to meet these metrics:

Benchmark Requirement Details
Completed Trips10+At least 10 trips must be completed within the past year.
5-star Ratings90%+All of your reviews, for all of your vehicles, must average at least 90%.
Commitment Rate95%+You must cancel less than 5% of your bookings. Turo, and the guests, don’t want to trust a host that will cancel on them.
Acceptance Rate90%+At least 90% of requests must be accepted. Guests don’t want to get their hopes down.
Response Rate95%+At least 95% of guests’ trip requests must be responded to and not left alone.
Turo’s All-Star program eligibility requirements

These metrics, in my opinion, are more than fair goals to obtain. Even after listing my Vanderhall on Turo for a few months, I was able to be an all-star host after hitting all of these goals. Guests want hosts that are experienced, have good reviews, and don’t cancel.

As you can see from my screenshots above, Turo does assessments every quarter. If you miss the mark one quarter, don’t worry, you will have another chance in a few more weeks.

Perks of Becoming An All-Star Host

There are several perks to becoming an all-star host on Turo. Some of my favorite perks are the higher priority customer support, $100 travel credit, Turo search “Trop Rated” filter, and waived cancellation fees.

Higher Prioritized Customer Support

Turo All-Star hosts jump to the front of the line for customer service. I have contacted Turo support multiple times and haven’t had to wait more than two minutes to reach a support staff. This is crucial for your listing because guests often have questions for you that maybe you need answers to very quickly. Especially when getting started, you may have multiple questions that customer support can help out with.

Another huge perk that you receive quicker customer support is when a host unexpectedly cancels on another guest, Turo seeks out all-star hosts to rebook a car for that guest. While this hasn’t happened to me, it happens a lot more in larger cities.

$100 Travel Credit

After being an all-star host for one year continuously, Turo will gift you $100 to use on any Turo trip. After your first year, you will continue to receive this gift. If you lose your all-star host status, it will, unfortunately, reset your count to get your $100 Turo gift credit. Keep in mind this is only valid for 180 days.

Turo Search “Top Rated” Filter

Achieving an all-star host gives you a special badge that is visible in the search results. There is also a special filter that views all top-rated hosts. Not only will you appear in more searches, but your listing will also stand out to guests much more often. If you have good reviews and an all-star badge you will most likely build trust faster with guests that are looking for a car rental.

Waived Cancellation Fees

This perk is a catch-22. If you ever need to cancel a booking on your guest, Turo will waive the cancelation fee hosts incur. However, even with the waived fee, you will still have a review from Turo that says you canceled a trip. Worst of all, it will affect your rankings negatively.

It is best practice to not ever cancel on your guest.

Not Getting An All-Star Host May Lower Your Earnings

Because Turo has made it very possible for any host to become an all-star host, it should now be mandatory if you want a successful Turo business. Without the all-star achievement, your listing will be shown less, you will have longer wait times with customer support, you won’t get the $100 Turo credit, and you’ll have to pay the cancellation fees.

As an all-star host, I can say becoming an all-star host is worth it and I believe it should be the very first goal for any new Turo host. Once you’ve achieved the all-star host badge, your next goal should be power host.
